Noble Consulting Surveyors have recently completed the engineering and Bulk Earthwork survey requirements of RJ Vincent & Co for Stage 21A at Meadow Springs, near Mandurah in the southern metropolitan region of Western Australia.
The duration of the project was close to one year, from initial clearing and bulk earthworks to the finished residential sub-division, complete with one of the area’s most impressive recreational parklands. Meadow Springs is a project of Mirvac, with the consulting engineers being Wood & Grieve Engineers. This post covers the first phase of the operation.
The bulk earthworks and clearing phase was rigidly controlled with specific requirements for tree preservation on the site. Quantities of bulk earthworks were close to 80,000m3 of Cut to Fill, with an excess near to 45,000m3 carted off site for future use.
D10 Dozers were the instrument of choice for cutting back the excess material and shaping the bulk of the pads to level, ready for the placement of structural sand in the civil phase.
The excess material was hauled away by three 50 tonne Dump Trucks on a relatively short haul circuit. Once the Dozer had cut away the bulk of the excess a 16G Grader was employed to fine tune the pads to level. Two Loaders were put to good use in the fill area shaping more pads and roads with the dirt that the Dump Trucks were bringing in.
Noble Consulting Surveyors employed the Trimble R8 GPS connected to Perth’s VRS Network to establish and peg the location and levels of the pads. This system enabled maximum efficiency over the 9.8ha site, with reliable accuracies within 20mm of design anywhere on the site.
The connection to the VRS Network allowed for fast deployment of equipment, eliminating the need to set-up a GPS Base station for every visit to site, NCS were able to perform quick quality checks and get straight into the important business of pegging for the busy machines so that they could keep moving dirt. After all Time is money!
As always, on projects like these, as-constructed data and earthworks volumes were required to ensure that the work done was within design tolerances, to verify quantities removed, and quantities remaining. In keeping with their commitment to service NCS were able to provide these services to RJV in a timely, efficient and reliable manner.
The end result was a project completed on-time, on budget and to design. R.J. Vincent & Co. is well known for their commitment to providing a quality product and this stage of Meadow Springs is another demonstration of their outstanding competence in Civil Works.
Once again Noble Consulting Surveyors have the pleasure to say Another Job completed, another Client Satisfied!
Stay tuned for the completion of this project – the transformation from Bulk Earthworks to Civil Subdivision.
